KLM Ground Staff Strikes September 24 & October 1, 2025

17Sep2025

KLM ground staff were striking last week (read more here) and again today (read more here), and they have already announced two further strike dates.

The strike on September 24 is scheduled to last for six hours between 8 AM and 2 PM, and the October 1st strike will last for eight hours between 6 AM and 2 PM.

You can access KLM here.

The two-hour strike last week cancelled more than 100 flights, and KLM has canceled a similar number of flights today.

The next two strikes will last significantly longer, from 6 to 8 hours, which means that a greater share of KLM’s daily flights on those dates are cancelled.

KLM doesn’t publish a list of cancelled flights, but you can expect most flights scheduled to take off during strike hours not to take off.

These strikes will also cancel the return rotations, and some long-haul flights scheduled to arrive during strike hours may be cancelled already the previous day.

Air Passenger Rights:

Strikes by airline employees are not considered extraordinary, so the cash compensation per EC 261/2004 also applies.

The airline, in this instance KLM, is also required to provide Duty to Care, which means accommodation and meals for passengers with long delays.

The airline is also required to rebook the passenger to their final destination at the earliest opportunity, even if this means moving them to other airlines, such as British Airways or Lufthansa.
