France’s biggest air-traffic controllers’ union has called a two-day strike for Thursday 18 and Friday September 19, a move that could ripple across Europe’s skies – even if you’re not flying to France. Here’s the short version of what’s planned, who’s likely to be hit, and how to protect your trip.

The SNCTA union – which represents around 60 per cent of French controllers – says it will walk out from Thursday morning to the end of Friday after talks with the civil aviation authority broke down. The union wants inflation-linked pay and an end to what it calls poor management practices.
Other unions (UNSA-ICNA and USAC-CGT) haven’t confirmed whether they’ll join in, but SNCTA’s size alone means disruption is highly likely.
