Malaysia tour bus crash leaves one Japanese dead and others injured

A tour bus collided with a truck in the state of Perak, western Malaysia, killing one Japanese tourist and injuring ten others.

According to state fire and rescue authorities, the accident occurred on a highway on Thursday afternoon. Eleven Japanese tourists were taken to the hospital for treatment, and the Japanese Embassy in Malaysia reported that one person has died. Four of them were hospitalized.

 

The group of Japanese tourists consisted of three men and eight women. The local driver and tour guide were also injured in the accident.

JTB, the Japanese travel agency that organized the tour, confirmed that the deceased was a woman in her 70s. JTB said the group departed from Kansai International Airport on Monday for a seven-day trip across Malaysia. The bus was en route to the Cameron Highlands, a renowned tourist destination in the state known for its tea plantations, when the accident occurred.

“As the company that organized the trip, we sincerely apologize and deeply regret this incident,” JTB President Eijiro Yamakita said in a news conference. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and pray for her soul.”
